Replace your gas powered lawnmower, leaf blower and other yard tools with their electric equivalents.

Department of Transportation data shows that in 2018 Americans consumed nearly 3 billion gallons of gasoline running lawn and garden equipment. That’s equivalent to the annual energy use of more than 3 million homes. A significant portion of that is spilled, and dirty air and fuel filters from small gas engines contribute to toxic waste in our landfills.

Looking at it from the perspective of just one lawnmower or leaf blower, operating the best-selling commercial lawn mower for one hour emits as much smog-forming pollution as driving the best-selling 2017 passenger car, a Toyota Camry, about 300 miles – approximately the distance from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. For the best-selling commercial leaf blower, one hour of operation emits smog-forming pollution comparable to driving a 2017 Toyota Camry about 1100 miles, or approximately the distance from Los Angeles to Denver both according to the California Air Resources Board.

Caring for our lawns is secondary to the amount of lawn we have in the first place. Having less grass and growing more plants that don’t need cutting are among the most important factors in keeping a yard eco-friendly. However, those changes take time and in the meantime, you still need to mow your lawn, remove the leaves and trim edges.

There’s a new generation of quiet, powerful and affordable battery powered lawn tools. Breakthroughs in battery capacity, along with improved efficiencies in motors, have allowed even large, power-hungry tools to go electric. Once you try them you will never use gas again.

Is one battery sufficient to mow my whole lawn?

A single lawn mower battery can typically cut 1/3 acre. Many folks purchase 2 batteries so they can swap out and double their mow time.

Should I purchase the same brand for all equipment?

Yes! The reason is simple – the batteries are not interchangeable between different brands. By choosing one brand of cordless tools you will be able to use the same batteries across those tools. Many lawn equipment companies make battery-powered tools that also use the same battery system
